BCCD serves seventeen communities with diverse working landscapes. Most of the towns of Stamford, Woodford, Searsburg, Glastenbury, Sunderland, Windhall, and Peru are located in the Green Mountain National Forest. Pownal has the county's largest number of dairy farms. Manchester and Arlington have been tourist destinations at least as long as anglers have visited the Batten Kill. One of Dorset's marble quarries is the oldest in the country. Elsewhere in the county people raise dairy goats and bees. We have a growing number of orchards and organic fruit and vegetable operations. People make thousands of gallons of maple syrup annually, and cheese. Some folks even grow their own bio-diesel.
