This project has given us the information and power to pass on to future generations. The information
gathered from these two loggers is an asset to the conservation and preservation of the forests.
Loggers know the woods and the way the trees live and grow. They know which trees to cut down and
which trees to leave for the next harvest. Claude Dern gave us a look into the past and the
way people lived off of the land. He experienced a way of life now, seen only in a few places in
America. Many other countries have found living off of the land to be more advantageous and an easier
on both the economy and the land.
The land could not look like it does without the knowledge each logger passes onto the next
generation of loggers. With each passing generation, information and stories are lost forever. Only
through oral projects, like this one, can history be preserved and lessons learned.
