| The Biscuit Fire Court Case, OR |
The battle between loggers and politicians are continuing on through today. There seems to always be a dispute between them that never seems to end. Currently their is a court case going on pitting loggers against local politicians, environmentalist and even the EPA.
Siskiyou National Forest, once a proud home to many endangered forms of life, now homes over 120 acres of charred forest. A fire in July of 2002, named the Biscuit Fire, blazed through the Siskiyou area causing immeasurable damage.
Now three years latter the battle begins. Loggers from all over Oregon are pushing into the area asking to go into the forest and clear out the charred lumber. Unfortunately, the lack of roads into the devastated region and recent scientific reviewing have put forth the dangers of moving the required equipment into the forest. The worry of people is simply that, if loggers move into the area they damage and even cause more damage to the environment surrounding the fire inflicted area. Other research conducted further aids the Politicians argument. Simply put money is power, and many claim that by allowing loggers to move into the region, costs of repairs to the environment will increase which will inevitably be paid by the locals.
Quite often this is the case against loggers. Everyone pitted against the industry of logging and on top of that a bad past reputation. In the past, careless loggers ruin and even destroy entire plots of land and sadly that is the entire side that people see. An uphill battle that never ends, that's the life of a logger.
