"Conservation Currents", a biweekly column written by BCCD board members and staff, has appeared in the Bennington Banner newspaper since summer 2006. We've written about composting, forest issues, rain gardens, habitat restoration, and lots more. You can read a few sample columns below. Columns carried in the last two weeks can be found online at the Bennington Banner. Click on "Columnists".
Our collaboration with the Bennington Banner has been a long one. We wrote a series of farmer profiles for the paper in 2000. (That effort culminated in the Bennington as History project at Mount Anthony Union High School, described in Rural Livelihoods.)

In 2004, BCCD produced a series on invasive plants for the paper. Click on any name in the list below to learn what kinds of threats these species pose to wildlands managers, gardeners, and farmers; and how to manage them.
Relatedly, hikers might want to know what role they play in spreading invasive plants. A slightly edited version of this piece, Hikers Beware, written by BCCD staff, appeared in the Green Mountain Club's Long Trail News "Trail Mix" section in Spring 2007.
